By Shaykh Mawlay al-Arabi ad-Darqawi and translated by Aisha Abdarrahman Bewley, these letters from one of the greatest shaykhs of sufism to his pupils, are a constant source of renewal and inspiration to the wayfarer.

This work is used in the circles of the Darqawi way not only in Morocco but across North Africa, as well as at Darqawi zawiyyas in England, the United States, Argentina, Spain, Malaysia and Makkah. It serves as a very vivid and clear introduction to the great masterwork of sufic science, The Meaning of Man, whose author was Sidi Ali al-Jamal the Master of Shaykh ad-Darqawi.

Shaykh Moulay al-Arabi ad-Darqawi (1159AH/1745CE – 1239AH/1825CE)

Moulay al-Arabi ad-Darqawi revitalised the Shadhili tariqa and spread tasawwuf in North Africa. He trained and authorised thousands of others who were qualified to take seekers by the hand, by the permission of Allah, glorious is He. Among the most influential of his later followers are Shaykh Ahmad ibn Mustafa al-‘Alawi of Mustaghanem, Algeria, Shaykh Muhammad ibn al-Habib of Meknes, Morocco and Shaykh Dr. Abdalqadir as-Sufi. The tariqa spread by means of them and others to Syria, Jordan, Palestine, the US, Canada, Europe, Malaysia, Indonesia. Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, Shaykh Muhammad al-Ya’qubi are other highly influential shaykhs of the Darqawi tariqa.
