Islam in Britain

£5.00

Description

This booklet brings together two insightful essays, “Islam in Britain” and “Towards the Greater Integration of Islam in Britain”, by Abdalhaqq Bewley. The author makes a case for Islam in Britain, not British Islam, that the reader will realise applies equally in Portugal or Japan, Polynesia or Tierra del Fuego. Perhaps little hampers the establishment and spread of the deen more than the perception by both Muslims and non-Muslims that it ‘comes from’ and ‘belongs’ somewhere else. In an age of extreme nihilism where for many a sense of belonging is hardly possible, it may only be deen that can restore it.

Abdalhaqq accepted Islam in 1968 and spent some years in Morocco learning about Islam. Since that time he has worked on the establishment of Islam and Muslim communities, in the process living and teaching in Nigeria, the US, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Spain, the Caribbean, Slough, Norwich, South Africa and Bradford. He is also the author of Zakat: Raising a Fallen Pillar. With his wife Aisha Bewley, he is the translator of The Noble Qur’an, a new rendering of its meanings in English. He currently resides and teaches in Bradford.
